For nearly seven decades, the U of A has been a home for aspiring musicians — fostering talent, inspiring creativity and building lifelong connections through music. That tradition continues in summer 2026 as the Community Music School and the Department of Music welcome students from across the region for the U of A Summer Music Camps.
Designed for students of varying ability levels, the camps provide an immersive musical experience that combines high-quality instruction, ensemble performance and a vibrant campus environment. This year's camps embrace a fun "camping" theme, celebrating community, collaboration and musical exploration.
A Legacy of Musical Excellence
With a rich history spanning 69 years, the U of A Summer Music Camps are among the most respected music education programs in the region. Generations of young musicians have refined their craft on campus, guided by expert faculty and inspired by performance opportunities that challenge and motivate them.
Participants benefit from instruction by instrumental specialists on every instrument. The camp faculty includes nationally recognized performers, educators and conductors who are committed to nurturing each student's individual potential. Whether students are pursuing music seriously or simply seeking to grow in confidence and skill, the camps offer a supportive and engaging environment.
A Comprehensive and Immersive Program
The Summer Music Camps feature a comprehensive curriculum that includes band, orchestra and chamber ensemble experiences. Wind, string and percussion students all find opportunities tailored to their interests and abilities.
Students receive approximately six hours of daily instruction, which includes:
- Specialized lessons with expert faculty
- Full ensemble rehearsals
- Chamber music experiences
- Exploration of diverse musical styles and genres
The program is designed not only to strengthen technical skills but also to foster teamwork, musical independence and a deeper understanding of ensemble performance.
Performance Opportunities
A highlight of each camp is the final performance, where students showcase their progress in a culminating concert for family, friends and the university community. These performances celebrate the growth students achieve during their time on campus and provide valuable stage experience in a supportive setting.
