Harry Patrinos Appointed to National Educator Advisory Board

Harry Patrinos, head of the Department of Education Reform and the Twenty-First Century Endowed Chair in Education Policy, was appointed to the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET)'s 2026-2028 Educator Advisory Board. 

He joins 11 other educational leaders from across the country who bring extensive experience improving instructional outcomes for students and represent universities, state education agencies, school districts and schools. Board members serve two-year terms. 

The advisory board brings leaders together to drive transformative change in education and improve school systems and student outcomes. Members contribute knowledge, innovation and strategy to advance educator excellence and give students greater opportunity for success. 

"NIET works to advance educator effectiveness through policy, research and service," Patrinos said. "I look forward to contributing to its work alongside educators and education leaders from across the country." 

As the head of the Department of Education Reform, Patrinos leads research and policy initiatives focused on improving educational quality and student success. He specializes in the economics of education, particularly the returns to schooling, school-based management, demand-side financing and public-private partnerships. He has published extensively in academic and policy literature, with more than 50 journal articles.

"I look forward to working with this group of distinguished leaders throughout their board term."
