The U of A Razorback Marching Band has been selected to perform in the 101st Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in November 2027, earning a place in one of the nation's most iconic holiday celebrations.
Macy's Parade organizers worked closely and confidentially with university and band leadership to coordinate a surprise announcement to ensure students would be among the first to learn of the honor. Chase Jones, director of the Razorback Marching Band, revealed during the annual "Pignic" preview event that the band received and accepted an invitation to participate in the nationally televised parade.
The selection comes after a competitive application process that included more than 100 marching band applicants from across the country.
"We are incredibly proud of the Razorback Marching Band and excited to celebrate this extraordinary achievement," Jones said. "Being selected to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a testament to the talent, dedication and hard work of our students, staff and supporters."
Since its debut in 1924, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has brought millions of people together to celebrate the holiday season. Featuring its world-famous giant character balloons, elaborate floats, acclaimed musical performances and the arrival of Santa Claus, the parade remains one of the most beloved annual traditions in the United States.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will celebrate its historic 100th march in 2026, ushering in a new century of parades in 2027. As part of the 101st edition, the Razorback Marching Band will join an elite group of ensembles chosen to perform for an audience of millions both along the parade route and through national television broadcasts.
"The Razorback Marching Band is the best in sight and sound, no matter the stage," said Brian Raines, dean of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. "Through this opportunity, millions of people will get to see what wonderful ambassadors they are for the University of Arkansas. They continue to bring the world to Arkansas and Arkansas to the world in ways that couldn't make us prouder."
To help support the band's travel and participation expenses, Macy's has provided a $10,000 donation to kickstart fundraising efforts. Additional support from alumni, friends and fans will help make it possible for student musicians to represent the U of A on one of the world's most recognized stages.
