In a milestone celebration marking 30 years of honoring culture, community and the legacy of Juneteenth in Northwest Arkansas, the U of A and the NWA Juneteenth Planning Committee are proud to host the 30th Annual NWA Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at The Upper Ramble in downtown Fayetteville. The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

This family-friendly community event will feature live music, interactive games, giveaways, cultural activities and entertainment for all ages. Attendees can also enjoy a children's activity zone, a vendor marketplace featuring local entrepreneurs and businesses, a live DJ and a featured musical headliner. Members of the community are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for additional seating.

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Its historical significance dates to June 19, 1865, when Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and enslaved individuals were free—more than two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth represents the final enforcement of emancipation in the last Confederate state and stands as a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience and progress.

In recognition of its national significance, Juneteenth National Independence Day was officially signed into law as a federal holiday in 2021. Today, communities across the nation commemorate Juneteenth through education, reflection, music, food, fellowship and celebration of African American history and culture.
