The U of A's annual Leave Green program kicks off Thursday, giving students a chance to donate unwanted belongings rather than throw them away as they move out for the summer.
From April 30 through May 8, donation bins will be available in all on-campus residence halls, accepting gently used household items and unopened food. The program, coordinated by University Housing in collaboration with the U of A Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Pantry, Potter's House and Habitat for Humanity, ensures donations are redistributed quickly to local families, neighbors rebuilding homes and fellow Razorbacks experiencing food insecurity.
Last year's program illustrated the scale of what's possible. During the 2025 move-out period, students helped redirect an estimated 39.75 tons of items to community partners at Potter's House and Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Potter's House collected 29 truckloads of donations, while ReStore added another 24 truckloads, reflecting strong participation across campus.
In addition, the Full Circle Pantry on campus received 5,854 food donations supporting U of A students and community members in need.
Leave Green accepts a wide range of items, including clothing, unopened personal hygiene products, non-broken furnishings, electronics, dishes and other household goods in good condition, along with unopened non-perishable food. Designated donation areas will be marked throughout the residence halls beginning April 30.
By redirecting usable items away from landfills and into the hands of those who need them, Leave Green has grown into one of the university's signature sustainability initiatives, one that strengthens ties between the U of A and the broader Northwest Arkansas community each spring.
