Mitzi Williams will retire on Friday, April 3, after serving the U of A for more than 40 years.
As administrative coordinator for the Office of the Registrar, Williams has managed daily operations for five different registrars and supported staff recruitment, inventory and budget, and commencement planning throughout the years. Her work has positively affected everyone served by the office - including faculty, staff and thousands of graduating students.
"Though much of Mitzi's work has been behind the scenes, her contributions have been extensive and impactful," said Dave Dawson, Workday Student lead and former registrar. "Her administrative support of the Registrar's Office and its staff has contributed to the overall mission and success of the unit. Her years of service in the Registrar's Office are both impressive and greatly appreciated!"
Williams began her tenure at the U of A with campus housing in 1984, when she was still a high school student. In 1987, she joined the Registrar's Office as a desk clerk before being quickly promoted to serve as office manager, a role she has held since.
"You can count on Mitzi to help with whatever you need," said Robin Carr, director of student records. "She takes care of all the staff in so many ways, from making sure we have daily supplies to organizing contract renewal, professional development and travel."
Over the years, Williams has set an example of dedication, consistency and kindness.
"From my first day in the office, Mitzi has always made me feel welcome. She works tirelessly to guide me and the rest of the staff through the many administrative tasks and procedures within the office, and her commitment to help has allowed us to serve our students and campus community even better," said Registrar Gary Gunderman. "Her experience and excellent attitude will be greatly missed."
According to Williams, she is looking forward to more time with family and volunteering with her church. Join all of Enrollment Services in wishing her well.
