The College of Education and Health Professions' Eleanor Mann School of Nursing recently partnered with The DAISY Foundation to recognize extraordinary nursing faculty and students. Nominations are now open.
Those who want to thank an EMSON nursing student who exemplifies exceptional compassion, advocacy or leadership can share their story using this nomination form.
Those who want to thank a full-time EMSON instructor who serves as an outstanding role model and inspirational influence on their nursing students can share their story using this nomination form.
Nurses or nursing faculty can be nominated by patients, families, students or colleagues. Each nomination form includes the qualities and criteria the selection committee will consider when choosing award recipients. All submissions will be carefully reviewed by a selection committee, and recipients will be honored at a special recognition ceremony.
Clinical instructor Lauren Burns was instrumental in bringing the program to EMSON. "Implementing the DAISY Award program reflects who we are at EMSON and within our COEHP 'We Care' mission," she said. "It allows us to honor the compassion, integrity and clinical excellence our nursing students and faculty demonstrate every day. By recognizing those who lead with empathy and serve with heart, we reaffirm our commitment to preparing nurses who not only deliver exceptional care but truly care for the people and communities they serve."
The first student award winner will be announced later this semester, and the first faculty award will be presented next spring.
The DAISY Award recognition program honors and celebrates the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide every day and is active in over 7,400 healthcare facilities and nursing schools internationally. The foundation was established by the Barnes Family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of ITP in 1999. When Pat died, his family created DAISY to thank his nurses and give others the same opportunity to do the same in the future.
